Central Equatoria State Basketball Association has condemned the act of violence by players during a league game between Nimra Talata and Cobra basketball clubs.
On Wednesday, a fight broke out between Nimra Talata and Cobra players after an incident involving Dekong of Cobra and Maker of Nimra Talata.
The fight was all triggered after Cobra’ Dekong elbowed and stamped Nimra Talata’ Maker in the fourth quarter of the game.
With tampers raising Nimra Talata’ Tokmac then punched Dekong who was move off the court. It was at this time that players and technical teams of the clubs got involved in the fight.
The fight brought the game to a halt for up 45 minutes before the two teams were asked to return to the court for restart. However, Nimra Talata players and coaches declined to play prompting the referees to award the win to Cobra.
Speaking to this website, the president of CESBA said they as an association do not support violence of such kind in basketball.
“We as an association don’t support violence during game weather it’s the players or fans, we condemn such acts and don’t want it to happen again,” said Khalid.
Dr. Khalid Marol said the association takes such incidents serious and action will be taken against those who took part in the brawl during the game.
“As an association, we shall make sure we take serious action against those that were involved in the incident and we shall use the law when taking our discussions.
Dr. Khalid also confirmed that a committee has been formed to investigate the matter and present a report before action is taken against the accused players or officials.
“We have formed a committee head by the acting secretary and it look into the issues and report back its findings before action can be taken,” affirmed Khalid.
The CESBA basketball regular season kicked in December 2021 and runs till April 2022 with 12 teams taking part in the league.
