Bright Stars To Know Their AFCON Qualifiers Opponents Next Week

National Men’ senior soccer team (Bright Stars) will know its opponents for the upcoming 2023 AFCON qualifiers on 19th April after Confederation of African Football on Friday confirmed dates of the draws.

The Bright Stars, qualified for the group stages after eliminating Djibouti in the preliminary round of AFCON 2023 Qualifiers last month.

The Stars won 5-2 on aggregate after beating their opponents 4-2 in the first leg in Cairo and a 1-0 win in the return leg in Kampala.

South Sudan is drawn in pot four for the upcoming draws along with teams like Tanzania, Sudan, Burundi and Much more.

This means South Sudan will not be able to face teams they are pitted with in the same pot. However, the Bright Stars stand a chance of face some of Africa’s big teams such as Senegal, Egypt, DR. Congo who are in pot one.

The Bright Stars have failed to make it past the group stage qualification round since joining Confederation of African Football (CAF) after attaining independence in 2011.

The team finished bottom of group B for the 2021 games which were held in January 2022 after being postponed due to COVID-19.

South Sudan lost five and won one in their group which included Malawi, Uganda and Guinea Bissau.

The team will play four games in June according to CAF’ new system of qualifiers released last week.
