South Sudan Football Association has become the first African FA to endorse Gianni Infantino for re-election as FIFA president.

Speaking at a press conference in Juba on Wednesday the president of SSFA Augustino Madout outlined the reasons why his administration decided to stand with the incumbent FIFA president.

Mr. Augustino stated that his administration is standing with Gianni because he has been there for the South Sudan even before he become FIFA president.

“In our board meeting held yesterday (Tuesday), agreed to endorse and support the current FIFA president Gianni Infantino for re-election,” said Augustino.

In 2015, Infantino promised to fund the reconstruction of Juba stadium, which came to pass in 2019.

Mr. Augustino said there would be no reason for SSFA not to support Infantino’ bid to lead world soccer governing body (FIFA) since he has supported football in South Sudan.

“Infantino has stood with us even before he become president and when he became president, he supported us with the current works going on at the stadium so there will be no reason for us not to stand with him this time that’s why we chose to endorse him”.

Last month, FIFA President Gianni Infantino has confirmed he will stand for re-election in 2023.

The deadline for candidacies is four months prior to the organization’s Congress next year, but dates and host for the gathering have not yet been finalized.
