South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) and stake holders will initiate a test Pan-African Inter-School tournament with only Juba based schools early next month.
While answering to the question, SSFA Secretary General Mr. Victor Lawrence Lual confirmed that meetings have been held on same competition and South Sudan will hold its national level next month, before taking part in the regional championship in September.
“The national phase was to start between March and July, then the regional phase to kick-off in September, then the continental one in December. So for our side, we already had meeting yesterday (Saturday 18th June, 2022) concerning this competition and our consultant Mr. William Okot is the focal person for this project”.
“It is a trial and we want to start with schools in Juba, but for the next year’s tournament we would involve schools from other States. But it needs support and cooperation from Ministry of Youth & Sports and Education and they are already engaged by CAF. So probably by the beginning of July, we will kick-off the Pan-African School tournament here in Juba”, Mr. Victor concludes.
On the occasion of signing of the protocol for a school championship between FIFA, DR Congo Football Association (FECOFA) and the government of DR Congo which took place on 7 April 2021 in Kinshasa, CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, present at the ceremony, announced the extension of this competition to all of Africa.
CAF, through its President, Dr. Motsepe, is committed to supporting the implementation of the brand-new Pan-African inter-school championship. The project, which is based on the organization of football tournaments in schools, was launched in DR Congo, before being extended to the six zones of CAF to the stage of continental finals.
Inter-school competition should, through the power of football, help improve lives and instill positive values in young people. It is also about promoting health and supporting social cohesion by integrating football practice into the school curriculum.
