After helping the Socceroos qualify for their fifth-straight FIFA World Cup, Awer Mabil has secured an exciting Spanish transfer!

The 26-year-old has joined La Liga outfit Cadiz CF on a four-year deal that will see him ply his trade in Spain’s top flight this season.

The move was announced in Mabil’s home town of Adelaide on Friday 24th June, 2022, 10 days after the Socceroo scored Australia’s decisive penalty against Peru.

Mabil spent the back-end of last season on loan in Turkey with Kasimpasa, as the final six months of his contract with Danish side FC Midtjylland expired.

He made over 100 appearances in Denmark, including the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League, where he joined an illustrious list of Australians who have scored in Europe’s top club competition.

“I ‘m very happy to join Cadiz CF and play in LaLiga. It is a dream come true for me and my family. I am looking forward to meeting everyone soon and beginning the hard work to bring joy and success to our fans”, Awer expressed his joy on Twitter.

Founded in 1910, Cadiz CF are based in Spain’s South-West. Last season they finished 17th in La Liga after in 2020 earning promotion back to the top flight for the first time in 14 years.

Mabil could open his 2022-23 campaign against a familiar face, with Cadiz set to play Maty Ryan’s Real Sociedad on August 14.

Awer Mabil remains a figure that is being followed and talked about back in his country of origin, South Sudan.
